We asked one of our interns to share his experience — from the work and learning opportunities to the people and culture that make 9E a great place to grow.
What were your initial expectations coming into the organization, and how did the experience match them?
Initially, I was interested in learning about a new aspect of mechanical engineering that I had not researched much before. Although the industry is incredibly important to society, it is often overlooked when people think about mechanical engineering. Once I arrived at the office, I was welcomed warmly, and the staff did a fantastic job of introducing me to their field and the work it involves, which I quickly developed a strong interest in.
What key technical or professional skills did you gain during your time here?
During my time there, I learned the value of teamwork and effective communication, as well as the importance of kindness in the office and workplace. These qualities help create a calm and positive environment that allows everyone to work at their highest potential. I also learned the importance of being open-minded and ready to take on any challenges that may arise, just as the talented engineers and staff do every day.
Which project or task did you feel allowed you to make the most meaningful contribution?
I would say that my sessions with the mechanical engineering team were extremely beneficial. They explained many specific aspects of the field, including the mechanisms behind how things work, which I otherwise might not have learned about for years. This gave me a valuable advantage and insight that I greatly appreciated.
How would you describe the mentorship provided by the team and the overall work environment?
My experience was nothing short of incredible. The time and effort invested by the engineers and the entire staff to welcome me and ensure that I was always comfortable was truly refreshing and very kind. I felt like I was part of a family, and the atmosphere within the office was warm and welcoming. It allowed anyone, regardless of their interests within the field, to feel comfortable and interact with staff members at every level of the organization.
Would you recommend this internship experience to fellow students, and why?
Definitely, I believe my experience was both rewarding and memorable—something I will cherish for years to come. Having the opportunity to learn about mechanical engineering in a real-world environment was amazing, especially as someone who has been interested in the subject for a long time. If anyone is considering an internship, I would wholeheartedly recommend 9E, as it is truly a great place to learn, grow, and gain valuable industry experience.
